The much-anticipated Africa Strategy of VNO-NCW will be presented by its president Mr. Hans de Boer during NABC's Ambassadors Dinner on November 29th, starting at 14:00. This 10th edition of the Ambassadors Dinner will be held at the Rabobank Headquarters in Utrecht. With 28 African embassies in attendance last year, the networking dinner is an event that you simply cannot miss! Additionally, you will be able to watch inspiring presentations from our three finalists for the "Doing Business in Africa" Award. This award brings Dutch companies who have shown the most promising business endeavours across Africa into the spotlight. Registration is open now at euro 150,- per person. The NABC member fee is euro 95,-

Speakers

Mr. Hans. de Boer, President of VNO-NCW 

Mr. Hans de Boer has been President of the business and employerss; organisation VNO-NCW since July 1st, 2014. Mr. De Boer (1955) is a former entrepreneur and supervisory director, who also managed to garner the requisite experience as part of the (Hague) entrepreneurs’ lobby. He was Chairman of MKB-Nederland for the period 1997-2003.

Hans De Boer was supervisory director and consultant to various organisations in the decade preceding his appointment in the VNO-NCW. Among others, he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Sperwer Group (supermarkets) and ArboNed, supervisory director at Siemens Nederland and Greenport Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij (Greenport Development Company).

As Chairman of the Youth Unemployment Task Force, he initiated the reintroduction

of (technical) vocational schools/MTS (senior secondary technical schools) in the Netherlands, which has now grown to a chain of around 100 'Technical schools'. In the more distant past, Hans de Boer was founder and director-majority shareholder of the Bureau Economische Argumentatie (Economic Research and Policy Consulting), which he later sold to KPMG.

As Chairman of VNO-NCW, he is vice-chairman of the SER (Dutch Social and Economic Council) and co-chairman of the Stichting van de Arbeid (Labour Foundation). Hans de Boer studied economics (specialising in Econometrics and Public Finance) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is married and has two children.
 

Els Kamphof, Head of Wholesale Banking for the Netherlands and Africa at Rabobank

Since September 2018, Els Kamphof is heading Wholesale Netherlands & Africa. In this role she has regional responsibility for Wholesale Banking in the Netherlands & Africa and is also a member of the MT Wholesale, Rural & Retail. Prior to this role she was Group Executive Wholesale at Rabobank Australia & New Zealand Group, responsible for Rabobank’s wholesale clients business in Australia and New Zealand.

Els joined Rabobank in 2006. She headed up Corporate Lending for wholesale clients in the Netherlands, managing corporate relationships and wholesale lending across all industries. After Corporate Lending she was global head of Financial Institutions Group, where she was responsible for relationship management across major financial institutions worldwide. Before her time at Rabobank, Els held several positions at ABN AMRO Bank in disciplines like Project Finance, Private Equity and Capital Structuring.

The ''Doing Business in Africa'' Award

 

Every year during the Ambassadors Dinner, the “Doing Business in Africa” (DBA) Award is presented to one of our notable members. This year the five companies that have been pre-selected are the following: Van Vliet Automotive, Closing the Loop, Nile Dutch, Greenshields & Partners, and Coolfinity.

The top three companies with the most votes will be given the floor during the Ambassadors Dinner to pitch their successful business stories, and the audience will get a chance to vote for the winner during the event. Van Vliet Automotive Group B.V. engagement in the continent has a long history. It started 65 years ago with a clear engagement and commitment to deliver to the expanding cities and infrastructure vehicles with the highest safety features and lowest possible emission drives. Closing the Loop

 

Closing the Loop has been working in African countries since the start. As a social enterprise, we focus on positive impact first, and we’ve already had some great successes. Over the last 5 years, we have enabled extra income for more than 2,000 people in 10 different countries, prevented more than 2.5 million mobile phones from becoming e-waste, and proven that it’s possible to do this legally and responsibly. In a sector burdened by illegal, unsafe and harmful practices, it is our duty to set a good example, creating a stable and competitive economy for e-waste. Beyond the social impact we’ve had on local communities, we’ve had a lot of additional success. From struggling to find the right shippers to educating and assisting local authorities, we have made a difference and had a clear positive impact, and this gains attention. We have been asked to present our pragmatic approach at EU and UN-funded events, and are showcased as a best-practice by the mobile industry. We hope to grow our company more to show that there is a sustainable and workable solution to the e-waste problem.

As the NABC celebrates the 10th year anniversary of the "Doing Business in Africa" award, NileDutch is proudly entering its 40th year of being in business. Forty years of connecting Africa to the World. In this dynamic African continent, we have seen incredible changes in most socio-economic aspects of life throughout the Continent, and we’re proud of the fact that NileDutch has always found a way to adapt and build its business as the Continent has grown too. Coolfinity is proud to be nominated for the Doing Business in Africa ‘ award of the NABC, being a relative new company. Our groundbreaking coolers that only need 6 hours of power to provide 24 hours of cooling in tropical countries with interrupted power. We design and make coolers for food and beverage and medical purposes selling to several sub-Saharan African countries. We believe that this award will help us to achieve  our motto, “feeding the world, saving lives a fridge at a time”.
